Although this site is a little thin, it's under development for the enjoyment and contributions of a very special group, The Euclid Senior High School Bands from 1970 through 1973. These are the years we participated, and remember fondly. As a member of both the band and Class of 1973, it is important to remember these adventures. For those who came after, and those who study there now we have a very special bond that few others can share,
We played for the Euclid High Bands.
We entered the band while it was under the direction of the late Mr. Dale Harper. For both the 1970-71 and 1971-72 academic year, he served as director of the high school band program. After his retirement in June of 1972, Mr. Art Sydow had taken the position. We would follow under his leadership in our senior year. There were many events and performances for us to remember. Somehow it did not seem so important then, but as time passes it's importance and memories grow with each passing year. How many of you remember practice in the south parking lot, or the trip for the game at Parma that we spent the entire time on the bus. We played so many things I'm sure I've forgotten most of the songs, but I do remember we used "Buckeye Battle Cry" (Gee...which Ohio high school didn't), and just how many times did we overuse "Goodie-Goodie".
You'll find some of these items here, and if you listen closely to the beginning of sound clip #2, you'll hear Mr. Harper calling to the stragglers "Come on". And so I hope you enjoy these looks into our collective past.
Please be aware: Some photo pages may take up to 2 minutes to load, and you will need Windows Media Player 7.0 or a compatible MP3 player like WINAMP to listen to the sound samples. The recordings come from audio cassettes I made in the band room during practice periods 1& 2, (yes, you can tell your kids we had cassettes back in the stone age). Even though I made these recordings to help me with practice, I never dreamed they would survive 30 years. And I couldn't have been more delighted to rediscover them with my yearbooks three years ago. They are now a part of our history. I pressed everything I could from the surviving tapes to a CD that's now in the alumni association collection at Euclid. But as we approach the 30th anniversary date of our graduation, I felt it would be appropriate to create this site as a first celebration.
If you have a memory or photo worth sharing, please forward it to me at the email address below, and I'll be more than happy to review it and include it (up to the limits of web space I'm allowed). So please enjoy.
