Long-tailed Jaeger

On September 11th, 2000 at Lake Chautauqua in central Illinois, a jaeger appeared and was soon identified as a Long-tailed Jaeger - a very rare confirmed visitor to this state.

The predominately gray coloration is characteristic of a Long-tailed Jaeger (portrait on right), as is the amount of white in its wings in the below photo and its behavior of trying to capture grasshoppers as seen in the lower right photo. (Jaeger flipping shot courtesy of David Johnson).
