(Chicago) Initiating a new collaborative programming model, the first project organized by members of Gallery 312's volunteer Programming Committee was Just Add Water And Stir, a series of events at the junctures of exhibition/workshop, art/craft, and fixed/fluid.
At the start of the project, the Gallery space is be filled with a collection of raw art and craft materials, model kits, tools, and traditional games. Invited artists developed installations in which the public was be asked to participate and make additions to. Other artists led sessions in object making (March 20th); Pinewood Derby® car and Space Derby® rocket modeling (March 27th); and gaming (April 10th). Throughout the 4 weeks of the project, the Gallery walls and space recorded these activities with results of this production: art, craft, toys, games, or simply recorded the processes engaged in.
Just Add Water And Stir included several new works by Mindy Rose Schwartz, including Sea Monkey Kingdom.
Just Add Water And Stir culminated in Derby Day on April 17th. Organized by artists Tony Wight, Tim Brower and Tom Denlinger, a 35 foot Pinewood Derby track was the centerpiece of an exciting day of competition.
