Steve Ludvigsen shattered the old Illinois record with this 52.5", 17.33# beauty. Fishing that day on northern Illinois' Kankakee River, Steve hooked 10 longnose and landed this one, the biggest of the bunch. The longnose fell to a 2" cut piece of shad on a black octopus #10 hook with no float or no weight. After a few quick photos and an official weighing, this stunning longnose was returned to the river to fight another day. Congratulations, Steve, on a record that should stand for a good long time!
The Albany, Georgia "chapter" of the Gar Anglers' Sporting Society is alive and fishing as shown here with two Master Gar Anglers and two nice longnose.
A New Way to Clean Gar
From talking gar fishing with bank anglers in south Oklahoma comes a nifty new way to clean big gar. They use a small electric chainsaw greased up with Crisco to filet the big longnose caught on the Red River.
