08/26/98 Time's 25 Most influential amercians

These are people who have accomplished something subtle and difficult. They have got other people to follow their lead. They don't necessarily have the maximum in raw power; instead, they are people whose styles are imitated, whose ideas are adopted and whose examples are followed. Powerful people twise your arm. Influentials just sway your thinking.

08/18/98 President admits his Wrong doing

During last night's National Presidential address, Bill Clinton admits he had inappoariate relationship with Monica Lewnsky. I guess he really had nowhere to go with all that evidence. Will Ken Starr submit a impeachment to the congress for obstruction of justice? Personally, I think this is President's private life and his wife Hillary Clinton should take care of it, not American public.

About myself

I'll start off with a little self introduction, my name is Rick Yang, I'm originally from China, I've just graduated last year from Univ. of IL. at Chicago(transferred from Western Michigan Univ., coincidentally, same collage where Tim Alan graduated, my idol, so proud! You should listen to my superb Tim Alan imitation, I have no clue why it irritates the nuts out of my girlfriend, but I love doing them).   I work in a Chicago suburb computer firm, nice company, great people over there. And of course, I need to write something about my girlfriend, she's 20 years old, a chinese as well, and currently working full time in the ATA airline, as much as she dislike the job, she gets to travel to anywhere ATA flies for free. And I just learned this from her, the pilots has the privilage to jump seats on ANY airline to ANYWHERE. Oh man, I am jealous!

Back to the subject, besides playing games on the computer, I have the habbit of playing basketball, when I was in high school, I nearly played the basketball game every summer night, I believe I was addicted to basketball as to AoE at that point of my life. Now, after many years, when my body is so much out of shape, it seems its time again to pick up the basketball game. Trust me, the idea pleased my girlfriend quite a lot.

I am also a big movie fan, if I don't get the time to watch the new release in movie theather, then I'll try to keep track of their reviews and make sure I am one of the first to see them as soon as they hit video stands. Here are some orignal titles that I still enjoy after watching them again and again, if there are movies you haven't seen from the list below, be sure run to your local video store and rent them right away, each one of the following are worth watching.

Movies directed by Steven Speilberg: ET, Close encounter with the third kind, Indiana Jones,  Shindeler's List, Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan.

And the rest..., The Godfather, True Lie, Eraser, The Rock, Face off, The hunt for red october(I read the book as well), Patrait Games, Clear and Present Danger, Lethal weapon, The birdcage, A wonderful world, JFK, Nixon, Heat, The Firm , Waterworld, In the line of fire ...

The list should grow longer as I will remember more titles in the future.

Generally speaking, things are going well in my life, and I hope they will keep that way,  but of course, there's always not enough time for one more AoE game.

Games I used to and still love ...

  • Netrek, a muliplayer(up to 16 players) game I used to play everyday of my collage life, and believe me, I was one of the best. The game is a graphical real-time battle simulation with a Star Trek theme. The game is divided into two teams of 8 (or less), who dogfight each other and attempt to conquer each other's planets. There are several different types of ships from fast, fragile scouts up to big, slow battleships; this allows a great deal of variance in play styles. I would've still played this game if I have ISDN/Cable modem connection, my X2 modem will get me slaughtered on the battlefield, so as you can see, this is basically a latency game.
  • Go, an easy game to learn, but a very difficult one to master. There are over 21,000 possible moves in the corner openings alone. Each game of Go is vastly different, depending on the opening moves and the quality and play style of your opponent. If you're looking for a new gaming challenge, enter Internet Go Server and ask for a match. Soon you should see why Go is so popular in China, Japan and Korea, and the game of choice among many individuals of all ages.
  • Genocide, this is a mud game I played for a while in my early years during collage, and it still exists at genocide.shsu.edu 2222, the game is all about players killing, you split into teams and gather as much resource as possible when war starts, then start killing each other. The combat system is much more improved recently I think, although I haven't visited the game for quite a while, say a year?

Tools and Tips for surfing the net

  • ICQ, one of the most popular communication tool used on the internet.
  • Ever wonder how some people obtain your e-mail address? Look at www.glenns.org/cgi-bin/nph-ftpgrab to see if you are giving away your e-mail address when you visit WWW sites. Some sites use a features built into WWW browsers to capture your e-mail address. The trick doesn't work with recent versions of Internet Explorer, but to protect against this and other tricks click on View | Internet Options | Security | Settings and strengthening your options for User Authentication | Logon (according to InfoWorld magazine).  In Netscape you need to click on Edit | Preferences | Advanced and turn off "send e-mail address in anonymous FTP password."

Articles and Humors

  • Humor: including bumper sticks,  and a few jokes I collected on the net.
  • Looks like I'm not the only one who hate AOL, other than the fact they bought ICQ and probably will flood us with the advertisement like how AIM is.
  • I just can't get enough of the show X-Files, so here it is, another link.
  • Read this article from Wired News, despite the popularity of online gaming, it is still a niche market for developers can afford to go after.
  • According to Wired News, women are scarce in the high-tech industry, so a new commission has been formed to investigate the old question of why girls don't excel in science and math. This explains why I am smarter than my girlfriend, muahahaha!!! I hope I don't get in trouble for saying this.

Semper Fi

SAVE FACE in ads for Saving Private Ryan. DreamWorks describes the events of June 6, 1944, as "... the last great invasion of the last great war.". Couldn't the studio afford research? The two Jima invasion took place nine months later.
