Welcome to the York High School Cross Country Website. Since 1960, when Coach Joe Newton arrived from a small town in north central Illinois, York, located in Elmhurst, Illinois has been the premier cross country power in the state, and a nationally recognized program. York bases its success on a team concept, and while it produces individual excellence, the runners learn that it is the team that matters the most, from the top varsity runner to the slowest freshman.

Newton, nearing the end of a 40 year career as York's only cross country coach, has been accorded countless honors, including being named as an assistant to the 1988 Olympic team. Newton looks for individuals who are not neccesarily talented, but are willing to sacrifice and work hard in order to improve themselves. Many of his runners have been students who never competed in sports, or "weren't good enough" to play other sports.

York cross country, however, is not only about running success. The young men who leave the program upon graduation have taken with them the ideals of hard work, honor, team commitment and respect... qualities that are important throughout the rest of their lives.

This site will be updated periodically with results, news, stories, and information about York cross country, including the starting date of the 1999 season and a preview of the team.
