Soundgarden, as you might have guessed, is my favorite band.  They had the most original sound I have ever heard.  The music makes you think, and reaches down into the depths of your soul and pulls out your soul and toys with it, making you feel things you've never felt before.   At least it does that for me.  If I'm ever down, I just flip any random SG album into the stereo and presto, I'm OK.  Which really helps, because people will get annoyed at you if you stay depressed for too long.

My favorite Soundgarden songs are "4th of July", "Like Suicide," "Head Down," "Burden in My Hand", "Mind Riot", "Jesus Christ Pose," "Face Pollution", "Drawing Flies," "Flower," "Big Dumb Sex," "Uncovered," "Applebite" (I don't care what anyone says, that songs rocks!) and "Never Named".  Don't get me wrong, I love all the songs, but these are the ones I listen to most frequently.  I started myself into Soundgarden, in a school project.   The goal was to collect songs that related to themes in Romeo and Juliet, and one of my themes was "chaos and death."  Of course, a number of Soundgarden songs could be related to such a theme, so what I ended up with was a lot of Soundgarden on my project.  The lyrics, I knew, were already deep, doused in emotion, and touched me in a way I had previously thought not possible.

Contrary to what most SG fans think, it's my opinion that each of their albums are great, including the earlier ones, Louder than Love, Ultramega OK, and Screaming Life/Fopp.  Even if they really hadn't discovered their own sound yet, there are still some good songs on each (by that I mean "mainstream").  However, once you listen to them, all the songs kick.  There is not an arguement here.  For instance, on Louder than Love, "Big Dumb Sex" brings a mischevious smirk to my face every time I hear it.   Also, "Full on Kevin's Mom" has some great riffs on it.  The later albums are just flat out excellent, and I look foward to the addition of B-Sides to my collection sometime next year.

For some reason, most metalheads I know seem to be forgetting just who Soundgarden is.  I drew the "S" symbol on the board one day, and no one could figure out what it was.  Someone actually suggested it was a Nazi symbol, if you can imagine.  Once I explained what it was, the immediate response was:   "Oh!  Black Hole Sun!  Spoonman!"  This is bad.  No one could think of any other songs (which were not title songs, like "Superunknown").  So now, I am reinfusing the sound of Soundgarden into numerous people's heads.  Soundgarden lives on!
