I am searching for my ancestor Samson Tumpowsky who left Poland and
a little village or town named Wladislawow in the year 1871. The name
of the village is spelled just like this in an original leaving attest
issued by a Jewish rabbi in the year 1871. Samson Tumpowsky is born 1852.
The word written by the rabbi states that Samson lives in Wladislawow with
his family until the day he left Poland. It seems impossible to find out
which parish his Wladislawow is. There is a lot of names in Poland like
this. Different spelling, but also the same. If you can help. Call Roland

I am trying to track down information on my grandfather. His name was Sumner Moore Kirby and he was killed at Buchenwald on April 11,1945.He was interned earlier at Embrun, Noe, and then Buchenwald and Leau, where he was "murdered" by a Polish guard. Can anyone help me find this camp name of Embrun? I know it was in the Italian Alps in a town of the same name, but information on it is elusive. If anyone out there is a survivor of Buchenwald and might remember my grandfather, please get in touch. He was apparently one of only two at Camp Leau in the end toward liberation. Thanks for any help. Just in case it's needed, he was born Sept.5,1895 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He was the son of an original founder of F.W.Woolworth and his crime was plutocracy. He was not Jewish, but suffered the same fate. email Cassea9@aol.com
I have recently visited your web page on Poland and found it quite informative and germane. May I ask if you would have any thoughts on how to determine the exact or close spelling of the Polish/Jewish name for the Americanized name Wallack? My maternal grandmother was born in Warsaw (the City, not the general Province) about 1881. In doing genealogical research, it seems no one in the family knows how she really did spell her maiden name. She would sound it out as VULCHECK and always add - but with a "W". Slavic scholars insist the Jewish spelling for someone from Warsaw must be Wolczek. Is there any means to determine this Jewish spelling based on the sounding and the geographic locale??? I would be appreciative for any ideas you might have, as I can really go no further until I know grandmother's spelling of her maiden name. I should hasten to add that it does not appear on any U.S. civil documents with the Polish spelling. My very best with thanks in advance. Best, Charles F. Printz,

I am trying to locate any members of my mother-in-law's family who may still be alive. She (Nadeshda Maria Nerush Brodhecker) was taken to a labor camp near Innsbruck, Austria in 1942. This is the only information that she can remember to tell me. She does not know that I am searching for her family. She has tried in the past and was unsuccessful. I do not wish to disappoint her again. Please help me. Nadeshda (Neda) was born November 18, 1926 in what we believe in Wilanow (possibly Wilno), Poland. At approximately 2 yrs of age, her family moved to Kiev, Ukraine. Her father's name is Michael Ivanovic Nerush. Her mother's name is Anna Bohachevky (spelling may not be correct). She had an older sister, Mariya, who was attending medical school in Kiev when Neda was taken. She also had two younger sisters, Eugenia, and Veera, and a younger brother, Serosha (Sergei?), who was killed when he was 5 yrs by a hit & run driver. From what I can gather, the extended Nerush family was from Dnepropetrovsk, by the Dnepr River. Among other famnily members that Neda can remember are: Her mother's sister, Oxana: widowed, remarried, Oxana's son, Marco: a principal in a small village, had a daughter, Tatiana. Oxana's daughter, Olga:couple of yrs younger than Neda. Her grandfather, Ivan Bohachevsky . Her father's brother, Petre: married 14 times. After the labor camp was liberated, Neda and her friend Alexandra were put on trains back to the Russian Zone. Because of treatment as though they were traitors, they escaped to American Zone and on to Austria where she eventually met her future husband, John Brodhecker. It is very difficult for Neda to talk about any of this. Please help me to help her!!! Thank you! Lisa Brodhecker <lbrodhecker@ccboe.net>
I am searching for the BUDKOWSKI family from Poland. I am also searching for any family with the last name: ELSTER - ERSTER - LESZ - PSANTER - SZCZERB - SZYLDWACH - BORENSZTEIN. My great-grandfather was Szmul Jakob Lesz. He was a cantor at the Deutche Shul in Lodz, Poland until his death in 1925. I am trying to locate any information on him that I can. I understand that there was a magazine published until the war called the "Hazzan Veltz" (sp?) or the Hazan's world. I am certain they would have had an obit on him. I have tried a few sources such as YIVO, but cannot locate a copy from that year. He died in October of 1925. Also, he served on the Jewish fire brigade in Lodz. Is there any information on this group? Lastly, his daughter, my grandmother, was a surgical nurse in Lodz. What school would have been open for her to attend for this education? She was born in Lodz in 1903. I guess she would have been in school about 1911. Your help is appreciated. Sincerely, Marla Budkowski Mbudkow@aol.com

His name is Thomas Laird. He lived in Devon County, U.K. in 1970

1971. Lisa Shultz

My grandfather's family came from Bialystok Poland. His
name was Nathan
Schnipper and his father was Samuel and his wife Itka. There
were a lot of children and the only one that I knew personally was Louis.
My grandfather came over here in 1906 and his mother was also in this country.
He took people to the boats and was gone for months at a time. There
could
be another wife and other children. I do not know. Any
info would be appreciated.

Chaim and Chaya Kolinsky Panitz(Panicz) of Kolno, Poland had 7 or
8 children, all of whom came to the U. S. except my great grandmother
Chana.I am seeking the descendants of these children. I was told
Chana"s twin sister Rivka married soeone named Siegel (?) and had three
children, a girl Anna and 2 sons. They were seen in the New York City
area in the late 1920s. I dont know any of the other names. I was also
told that someone had a raincoat factory in California. This was in the
mid-1940s.
Israel and Gittel Gottlieb Naimann (Najman) had a son Samuel Leiser in Seligi Poland near Bielawy in the Lowicz area in 1887. He was my grandfather. He died in 1918. At that time his parents were living in Radom. I was told there were 10 or 11 siblings. Two are Eli and Leiser. I would like to find out who the others were and if anyone survived the holocaust.
In 1905 my other grandfather Abbe Agullnik who was born in Sidra in 1880 came to N.Y. from Bialystok where he was married to Fayge Raisel Rochaven daughter of Abraham and Chana. Abbe's father was Velvel and his mother was Shayna. When he came here he stayed with an uncle Isaac Zuckersuss(later changed to Zucker). Abbe Agullnik became Abraham Goldberg. Zucker had 2 sons Abie and Nathan who died in Florida in the 70s. In 1913 acousin, Motke Krupinski came from Sidra and stayed with a cousin H.Grkowitz(from the passenger list) in the Bronx. My aunt remembers visiting my grandfather's cousin Herschel who had a wife and daughter in the Bronx. They may be the same person.
I was told that cousins of my grandmother Mina Naimann owned the John's Bargain Stores in New York in the 50s. The stores no longer exist. The cousins lived in Coney Island or Rockaway N.Y. I would like to find the cousins and descendants.

TO : Anyone called Wagner in Vancouver.
Just before WW1 my great-grandfather, Willie Dawson - from Yorkshire
- went to Vancouver, with wife, son and daughter. The daughter, called
IRENE, married a man called Wagner. Her sister is called Mildred
and married Edwin Holmes - who came out from Yorkshire, we think.
We think Irene may have had children, thus the Wagner advert. Mildred
and Irene are my mother's only cousins. My mother would like to hear from
Irene, Mildred or their families. My Mum is 85 and doing pretty well.
Apologies to all the Wagners to whom this is irrelevant. E-mail :
