The specifics detailed prove once again the tremendous potential for corruption when government forces taxpayers to spend millions of dollars on sports stadiums or other private entities from which relatively few benefit.
Yet we should take a step back and realize the evil fundamentally inherent in most government transfers of money from taxpayers to private persons, organizations or facilities.
Tax money should be restricted to intrinsic government functions, such as police, the court system and a strictly limited national defense. Any other use, such as to subsidize a private sports stadium, is arguably nothing less than legalized theft--regardless of whether the money comes from income, property or even hotel taxes.
I hope this story has changed the minds of those who were previously in favor of arbitrary government taxation and spending.
