Haiku - January, 2002
high rise balcony
on the nth floor
a new snow shovel
silence
the sounds of smoke
rising
morning snow
last night's footprints
deeper still
|
winter morning
only moon shadows
warm her bed
December
when every word
jingles
bird bath
under the ice a leaf waits
for spring
|

Olympic Games
leaning into the turns
from my recliner
out of the womb
into the mouths of worms
(life, somewhere between)

Haiku - February, 2002
not quite spring
a bird nest reappears
in the pine
snow melt
the squirrel still running
upside down
loneliness --
a father waits outside
the ER
|
day after
my finger circles the hole
in her favorite scarf
starlings gather
on the telephone wire
beside a kite's tail
waves crash
against the seawall
silent seagulls
|
_February Senryu_
Punxsutawney Phil
decides to stay in his hole
weathermen panic
have you noticed how
the shortest month has ended
with the largest moon
