Haiku - January, 2003
winter rain
the smell of smoke and canvas
inside our tent
playground
concrete gnomes & toadstools
wear a new snow hat
frozen playground
a stocking cap stuck
to the slide's top step
two mallards
puffed against the cold
lose their necks
|
north wind
a few more fence posts
stubble the snow
I poke a hole
in the bird bath's ice
snow moon
lazy afternoon
watching drops of water
lengthen icicles
mid January
the neighbor's dog squats
closer to the house

Haiku - February, 2003
just showing off
wearing grandpa's cigar band
on his finger
row houses
one after another until
the yellow door
somewhere between
the trees and painter's palette
leaves were lost
|
river bank
a duplicate oak
right-side up
underneath
the lily pad
shadows with eyes
silent forest
ferns and mushrooms
at play
|
_ Senryu_
snow melt
we discover our neighbors have
a very big dog
my bed
will always have
her side
