Haiku - January, 2004
tracks from the bank
to the hole in the ice
and back again
winter tracks
beneath the frozen feeder
sparrow arrows
winter whiskers
fence posts rise
above the snow
winter solstice
the sheen of frozen ground
polished by wind
|
wood smoke
and the smell of canvas
winter camp
downtown crossing
we wait for a train
to unzip the street
winter's moon
impaled
upon the pine
no shadow
the garden's Buddha
sits on snow

Christmas services
a cellular phone rings out
Handel's messiah
winter solstice
carolers and gunshots
share the streets

Haiku - February, 2004
window view
a telephone wire cuts
the moon in half
three moons
a broken window
or new galaxy
lattice window
a spider moves from
tic to tac
noses
press against the orphanage
window
|
attic window
grandfather's rocker
quiet now
hospice window
she watches a leaf
curl into itself
spring view
through the window
a robin's song
bitter cold
the window's frost
hides the moon

10 below zero
the groundhogs stay in their holes -
weathermen panic
heavy snow
the city's streets
have no potholes
