Taped a movie off the TV?
That'll be $250,000 and a year or 3 in the slammer

Thanks to (CNN's?) allpolitics.com for at least reporting this one:
AllPolitics - Tough New Copyright Law Covers The Net - Dec. 17, 1997
(I didn't find a hint about it in AP's online news, but maybe I overlooked something.)

Why do these things seem to slip through just before Christmas? :)

So, maybe the old info on the page should be re-labelled as:

WIPO = WIPe Out Free Ideas?

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is in a big rush to finalize a treaty on "intellectual property" by Dec 20, 1996. This treaty is likely to make radical changes in copyright law worldwide. If adopted, copyright protection will in some cases be extended to facts themselves, not just a writer's expression of those facts. Have a nice day.

WIPO Update Dec 20: WIPO Treaty completed. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find a free copy of it. Does anyone know where it's on sale?
