"A wonderful book, full of gentle insights and deep
perceptions, essentially about change. Gilchrist has
created a book of great visual beauty, using deep brown
colors for her African American characters and rich hues of
blues, blacks, and whites for the night landscape. The text
is beautifully written, conveying a number of messages
about the nature of childhood...A wise and marvelously
done offering that deserves a place in every libary."

illustrator's, turn to writing is magical in Indigo and

relationship between mother and daughter who enjoy staying
up laughing. Amid beautiful pictures and word images is
the story of a girl who has built self-love from being
loved and carries her love to the community, the world
around her, and will one day bring it to her own child.
