Daedalus and IcarusDaedalus worked as a craftsman. He created things of all kinds and always there to suport him was his son Icaras. They both were mortal. The labyrinth was the best of his creations. The labyrinth was a maze like structure used to capture the Minotaur. This was built under the comand of King Minos. The creation that Deadalus built was used against him when King Minos turned against him and locked him up inside the Labyrinth. Deadalus and Icarus thaught there was no way out because of the fact that King Minos controled the land and the sea. Therefore Deadalus stated, "Minos may control the land and the sea , but not regions of the air. I will try that way." So he worked and worked to try to create a way of flight. He took feathers, large and small. The large were joined together by thread and the small were joined by wax. When the wings where finally in working order Deadalus warned his son to stay at a normal height. He told Icarus that if he flies too high, the sun will melt the wings, and if he flys too low the wings will get damp and no longer be in working order. Finally Deadalus kissed his son not knowing that it was for the last time. They took off in flight and the townspeople stopped and watched. Then Icarus flew upward as if he was soaring to the heavens. The sun got too hot for the wings to withstand. As a result, the feathers started to fall. Icarus cried for his father, but he perished. At last Deadalus arrived in Sicily safe but with the lose of his only son. Deadalus stayed in Sicicly and built the Temple of Apollo where he hung up his wings a poem about Icarus written by: Darwin With melting wax loosened strings; Student report by Christopher Barfoot |
