HephaestusHephaestus was born to Zeus and Hera, a shriveled and ugly son. Hera was so disgusted with Hephaestus' looks, she waited for night to fall and dropped Hephaestus off the the edge of Olympus. He hit the ground with such force he broke both legs. Beneath Olympus was the sea where Haphaestus lay not able to crawl or die because of his immortality. Eventually, a tide came and swept Hepahestus away and he vanished off the beach. Thetis captured the baby and made him her pet. As small as he was, Thetis was amazed how he worked making jewlry useing pebbles and shells. One day Thetis appeared at a festival wearing an ornament Hephaestus had made. Hera was also at the festival and wondered where Thetis got such a piece of jewlry. Thetis announced the baby found on the beach. Once Hera realized dthe baby was hers she demanded him back. Hephaestus returned to Olympus. Once he got there Hera sent him to a mountain to make her jewlry. In exchange Hera promised Hephaestus that Aphrodite would marry him. by Marisha Baldwin |
