PrometheusThe gods and titans had a fight to rule the universe, which the titans lost. Prometheus was a titan but was with the gods. The gods gave Prometheus the right to choose how the sacrificed animals would be served to the gods. Prometheus took the choice cuts of an ox and put it under skin to make it look unapetizing. Then he took the bones and put them under fat so that they would look good. Zeus had to choose between the two. Zeus knew Prometheus had set up a trick but still picked the bones and fat. Zeus was so mad that he took fire away from humans. Prometheus decided to still give humans fire. Zeus was madder and he called upon the Smith god Hephaestus to make a beautiful woman of clay. This woman's name was Pandora. Before that time man was alone. Pandora was brought to Prometheus's brother as a gift. He married Pandora. Pandora had a jar with all of the bad things that was to happen to man in it. When they were married she opened the jar and all of the evils came out. Zeus still wasn't through with punishing man, so Zeus put Prometheus in admantine chains tied him to a pillar, with an eagle who ate his liver each day. The liver was replaced every night only to be eaten again. Prometheus stayed there until a man by the name of Hercules came and broke the chains and killed the eagle. Eric C. Lacey. |
